Abstract: In recent years, the rise of digital cultural intermediaries (MCNs) has established a digital connective layer among platforms, users, creators, and advertisers. While reshaping the content creation ecology, MCNs have also driven the intermediation of capital circulation. Based on Bourdieu’s theoretical framework of cultural intermediaries and cultural capital, combined with fieldwork, it finds that MCNs significantly enhance the efficiency and scale of capital circulation within the field of digital cultural production by coordinating and optimizing the exchange of resources across multiple dimensions among diverse actors. Relying on their actual control over traffic, MCNs facilitate capital’s manipulation of data and the strengthening of capital circulation loops. Therefore, only by simultaneously constraining platforms’ infrastructural power, regulating MCNs’ intermediary power, and strengthening users’ rights to know, to choose, and to participate as subjects of digital society, can we effectively curb the unlimited expansion of capital and power through data, algorithms, and intermediaries, as well as the reproduction of digital inequality. This will, in turn, foster a fairer, healthier, and more sustainable order of digital governance.
